Bio
Marilyn Narota combines art and psychology to produce socially engaged installations, sculptures and performance-based videos. She explores perception and social norms surrounding femininity and multiculturalism through unexpected use of familiar materials and situations. She was born in Colombia and currently lives in New York City. She holds an MFA from School of Visual Arts (2016), a Post-Baccalaureate from Maryland Institute College of Art (2013), and a BA from Williams College (2006). Her work has been exhibited at Periphery Space, Project for Empty Space, The Hole, El Museo de Los Sures, Cloying Parlor, Goucher College, Maryland Institute College of Art, Williams College and School of Visual Arts, among other venues. She is also founder of collaborative artist initiatives such as Artilade Magazine and Kaur Studio. Narota has been the recipient of several scholarship awards and completed the inaugural Grab Back: Feminist Incubator Residency at Project for Empty Space in 2017.
